The mission statement of the Consulate:
The Office of the Consul General at the Consulate General of Israel in New York serves as the nucleus of the Consulate. While it oversees all departments within the Consulate, the Lishka (“office” or “chamber”) primarily functions as the liaison between the State of Israel and various entities that encompass the New York Metro area such as national and local organizations, the offices of public officials and business alliances.
The role of the Consul General is to promote the positive image of Israel in the media and the surrounding communities by exposing them to updated and current information, Israeli artists, professors and prominent personalities.
In addition, the Lishka serves as a focal point for Israeli dignitaries and coordinates their schedules during their stay in the region.
As the larger American Jewish organizations comprise significant support for the State of Israel, the Consul General enjoys a mutually cooperative relationship with these organizations on a daily basis. Encouraging members, supporters and young leaders to get involved with pro-Israel activities in the New York area and coordinating missions to Israel are some of the initiatives that are coordinated by the Lishka.
The Consulate General welcomes the cultural diversity that permeates the New York area. By proudly hosting programs of cultural exchange, such as the annual commemoration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and events with the growing Latino community, the Consulate celebrates the vitality of these groups. In conjunction with other Consulates in New York, the Lishka has also organized fundraisers for emergency relief aid in other countries. Similar activities continue to develop in an effort to cultivate positive relations with a wide range of communities.
